The M.S. in Cancer Chemical Biology program has an extended time frame for applications. Applications are considered throughout the year and are reviewed on a rolling basis for admittance to Fall terms only. The admissions committee typically reviews applications bimonthly at the start of each calendar year. Applications submitted after these dates may be considered for admission to the following year’s Fall semester.
Fall 2027 admissions offers must be accepted or declined in Wolverine Access:*
International student decision deadline: May 1, 2027
Domestic student decision deadline: July 1, 2027
*Admitted applicants who have not made decisions by this deadline will have their admissions offer revoked by Rackham Graduate School. International applicants who do not submit required financial documentation to Rackham before May 1st may also have their admissions offer revoked.
Application Requirements
Applicants must have a conferred bachelor’s degree before the start of the M.S. program to be considered for admission.
The Program in Chemical Biology master’s degree admissions committee pays careful attention to letters of recommendation (3), statements of purpose, and college transcripts when reviewing applications. Minimum requirements include foundational coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics and a minimum of 3.0 GPA is strongly desired.
Applicants, as prospective future Rackham graduate students, are expected to understand and observe the graduate school’s academic and professional integrity policy, and adhere to guidance and policies related to use of GenAI for Rackham applicants.
Transcripts
Please upload a scanned/electronic copy of your transcript or grade report (see Rackham’s transcript requirements). That copy will be reviewed by our Admission Committee. You will be required to have an official transcript sent from each institution from which you have obtained, or will obtain, a degree to the Rackham Graduate School only if you are recommended for admission.
Academic Statement of Purpose
The academic statement of purpose should be a concise, well-written statement about your academic and research background, your career goals and accomplishments, and how the program will help you meet your career and educational objectives.
Personal Statement
The personal statement should include information on your background and life experiences — including cultural, geographical, financial, educational experiences or other opportunities or challenges — and what motivated your decision to pursue the PCB master's program at the University of Michigan. The personal statement should differ from your academic statement of purpose and is limited to 500 words.
Letters of Recommendation
When you register your recommenders in the ApplyWeb application, each recommender will receive an e-mail notification to complete the recommendation form through ApplyWeb.

CV or Resume
A curriculum vitae (CV) or resume describes your education, work experience, research publications, teaching experience, professional activities, volunteer activity, community engagement, honors, and awards.
Official GRE Scores
GRE scores are not required or reviewed for domestic or international applicants.
Rackham English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the methods specified by the Rackham Graduate School, unless they meet one of the listed criteria for an exemption.
Language test scores are valid two years from the test date. The scores must be received from the testing agency no later than the graduate program application deadline.
Admissions
The Program in Chemical Biology will recommend students for admission to Rackham Graduate School. Rackham will review your application to ensure Rackham’s minimum requirements are met. You will be notified by Rackham after admission has been finalized.
